Chandalalr's Vixen of Adak SD

Vixen
D.O.B: 5/1/1994

Vixen and Ningo were littermate sisters, bred by Orlene Bond of Fairbanks, AK. Their father was a fabulous Iditarod leader bred by Earl and Natalie Norris named “Alaskans Blackjack of Anadyr”. Blackjack has sired a good number of dogs, and as far as I can tell, they are pretty much awesome. Vixen was owned by the late Henry Hahn, and I owe Henry for the training he put on this little dog who I nicknamed “my gremlin” because of her big ears and interesting look. Vixen was the best leader I have had to date, including a single leader. There wasn’t a trail she couldn’t find in a storm, she wasn’t a turn she wouldn’t take (well, unless I was telling her to take the wrong one). She was smart, quirky, and cute and when I lost her to a fast moving cancer at only nine years of age I was completely devastated. Vixen was supposed to train my next generation, she was supposed to retire on my couch, she was supposed to live many more years than she did. She was healthy as an Ox but when she didn’t want to run one day I knew something was seriously wrong. We found the lump in her neck but it was too late, it had already spread to her blood stream and within three weeks I had lost her. She was the first dog lost in my kennel, and it was a day I will never forget. When I put her down on my living room couch all my dogs raised their head in song. They knew. They will never forget the way she used to turn around in harness and smile at all the dogs behind her, urging them forward even in the worst of times. They will never forget that grin of hers, and neither will I.
